Subject: The Odyssey - In the Footsteps of Our Fathers
Greetings from London, UK
I have come across Kresy-Siberia on several occasions in London and I very
much respect the work the Foundation is doing.
My mother with her three children (I was just one at the time) were deported
in April 1940 from Postawy nr. Wilno (now in Belarus) to Pawlodar region in
Kazakhstan. We were fortunate for we got out with the Anders army and
eventually found ourselves in England where we have lived ever since. With
time, the history of those days becomes more engrossing and a feeling of
appreciation matures in our hearts and minds, particularly for the sacrifice
and endeavour of our parents and all those who helped us get out of Siberia.
In a small way I am trying to show this appreciation in the form of direct
help to those left behind in the countries of our deportations in the form
of a Humanitarian Action under the name Our Roots Trust. It started five
years ago and will be formalized into a registered Trust later this year.
Currently, I am working on a theme entitled "In the Footsteps of Our
Fathers". One part of it is the "Anders Odyssey" and to commemorate those
fateful days, I followed the path of the retreating armies from Lidzbark all
the way to Jsionka stasiowa, in Ukraine, where the General was taken
prisoner - I did this on a bicycle.
In May this year I am going to Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan to complete the Anders
Odyssey - this will be my fourth trip to this region. If any of the
Kresy-Siberia members or readers would like me to visit their place of
deportation, cemeteries, graves or places of special historical interest to
them - I will be happy to that for them and bring back photographs,
descriptions and comments, and notes of any "interviews" or talk with the
locals still living there. I have done this for several persons already and
they have now become Friends even though they may be living in another
I would like to invite Kresy-Siberia and anyone interested to visit my web
page and contact me regarding my trip or any other questions/comments:
or directly from the web page
