I was hoping to hear from a few others about Rawa Ruska. My mothers last name was Kopiecka. My grandfather was Marcin Kopiecki and my grandmother was Elzbieta Kopiecka. My grandfather was an army officer. He was apparently killed by the russians.
Is there a list some where for army officers who died during the war? My mom was born on 1922.

Than you Zenon for the info. From what little I know, my mother was taken during the same time your mother was however she was a bit older. I do not exactly know the fate of my grandfather however I do know tat he was killed by the Russians.
I am quite open to any and all information on looking for my family.
All the best,

Dear Ania, In my mother's case, she was deported in early 1940 (as a 9-year-old) from Rawa Ruska, along with her mother and brother, to Kazakhstan, where her mother soon died and her brother vanished, never to be seen by her again. Prior to that, her father, a police officer, had already been arrested and subsequently became one of the so-called Katyn victims (although held at Ostashkov, killed at Kalinin [Tver], and buried at Myednoye). I visited Rawa Ruska briefly more than a decade ago, but was unable to undertake research about her family. Even the church where she was baptised, although still standing, was closed. There are other members here who should be able to help you find out more about your mother's family. I hope they read this and respond! My mother was also from there. She. Never spoke much about family as her parents were killed in WW2 and she as picked up by the germans abd spent time in an ammunition factory camp. I have wanted to learn about more about her family. She was an only child. Is there a way to find out information? Her family name was Kopiecka. I believe my grandmother would have been Elizabeth and my grandfather was Marcin. I think he was an army officer. Thanks for any help and I am thrilled to finally know of someone from Rawa Ruska.
