      Elzunia,
my father and family were in fact in a sub-camp of Komarticha called Sorokanda. I believe it was smaller than most-only 42 families in 2 barracks. That being said, can I still safely assume that they travelled on the same train as did your family? From somewhere I recall that the families from our neighbouring 5 osadas all ended up in Kotlas and parcelled out from there......
As far as their departure from camp, it is written that they were freed beginning of September and they must have left shortly after (within a week or 2) My aunt has said that they stopped "working" almost immediately while they decided on a plan, which I gather was at the very least to get out before winter set in. Getting to Kotlas was quite a struggle - it has gotten as much discussion time in our conversations as any other time in their several year struggle.

      Hi Terry
Our families were at the same posiolek, Monastyriok, Archangelsk. The camp commander Organ was apparently (relatively) understanding and compassionate towards the deportees. I think they were quite lucky to have landed there.

My mother writes in her diary about receiving a package:
"11th Nov 1940: Now the snow was falling more often and it was getting colder. We received a parcel from grandmother Salomea in Wolyn. We were all very happy with this - especially since it contained “opłatek (communion bread), honey, sugar, biscuits and vegetable seeds - in the spring Helena would sow the seeds in our garden to provide vitamins which we so badly needed."

Sorry group for the way my last message appeared-it seems I can send messages from one of my yahoo accounts to another with proper Polish letters, but when I post, the symbols appear. I'd like to try again!

      Bob,
according to my father for a short time they did recieve a few parcels to their camp from Poland, though not many. Seems that they were food stuffs, sent from my grandmothers parents who were still living in the kresy(Medwedowka) . In reviewing my grandfather' s testimony for Anders he states to the question

'Czy i jaka była łšcznosc z krajem i rodzina?' - 'Po dwóch miesišcach pobytu nas posiołki można była pisać listy do rodzin pozostałych w Polsce od tego czasu aż do wojny listy i posyłki dochodziły.' ( After 2 monthys stay in our camp we were able to write letters to family remaining in Poland from that time to war letters and parcels arrived.)

They arrived in camp in March '40, so most likely the first letters were not sent out until at least May with probably at least month or 2 turnaround till anything would come back.
I believe he was referring to the German attack on the USSR as to when the letters stopped.

I look forward to corrections in my translating
