9:20am Wednesday 1st April 2009
POLISH families displaced by the Second World War who stayed at the
Displaced Persons Camp in Fairford are being invited to attend a dedication
ceremony to mark its closure 50 years on.
The camp housed polish families displaced during the war from 1949-59.
The Ernest Cook Trust is unveiling a plaque at the former entrance of the
site in Leafield Road. Previously, there was nothing to mark the place where
1,200 Polish people lived.
The plaque was paid for by the Polish Ex-Combatants Association (SPK) and
will be unveiled by its chairman, Czeslaw Maryszczak on May 30 at 11am.
Alicja Swiatek Christofides, who was born at the camp, is organising the
event and wants former residents and their relatives to get in touch to
invite them to the ceremony.
She can be contacted on 01737 246894 or alicedirect@...
