Beata, please forgive my mis-spelling of your name. That is rather unforgiveable.

Subject: [Kresy-Siberia] Proposed closure of Museum at Rapperswil
I am wondering if there has been an interest among you in signing this petition re: the proposed closure of the Polish museum in Rapperswil which was recently brought to our attention by Elzunia.
I sent it onto a few people and among other things go the response ~ "Oh this is nothing new. We have read in our local Polish press that many such museums are closing and sending their collections back to Poland. The old generation is dying out and their descendants don't care ~and the new immigrants (there are tens of thousands in England now) they have left Poland of their volition and they don't care. That's life, why bother. "
However I know from many things and not least from this group that people do care and that very many people, among them many who no longer speak the language or bear recognizable Polish names are still desirous to know their Polish heritage, are proud of that heritage and even passionate about it.
It is a sad thing that such museums as Rapperswil which mark the passage of Poles outside the confines of their own country should close. As they do it is a sure thing that the forced Polish exodus of 1939 together with the many others throughout history will gradually become elided then erased from the collective memory. Many of us have remarked on the already widespread ignorance of even recent history as well as on the assiduity of other suffers from political and inhuman injustices to preserve their particular memories. Let us not be left behind. It is not just for the sake of our own particular history but for the sake of history itself ~. "Those who forget the Past are doomed to repeat it" ~ I urge you, if you have not already done so, to take a look at the website and show your interest and solidarity by signing the petition.
