quicker way to arrive at a letter (eg. F) other than clicking onto
the next page?

- First of all I would like to add; that before Karta or even Memorial publish anything about a person, they have to be ABSOLUTELY certain that the informationMessage 2 of 5 , Apr 1, 2008View SourceFirst of all I would like to add; that before Karta or even Memorial publish anything about a person, they have to be ABSOLUTELY certain that the information is correct and applies to that specific person. There are occasions of 'sort of' mistaken identity and in spelling of the names because of the transliteration from Cyrillic to Latin. Having said that in their records, as I understand, there are more files which are not posted for electronic access and one should not be deterred from asking them directly through the e-mail to one of the members of the Index of the repressed.
To access the database simply enter the name you are searching --in Polish fonts -- and choose a category appropriate to form of repression and see. Sometimes it is good to go to other alternatives in spelling of the names as well.
I found this also in the Karta books I have, that spellings differ.
In the section dealing with the oppressions by the Nazis, Karta give the location of the files, such as Polish Red Cross or Combatants,Arolsen and so on.
Looking for anyone using 'long method' via the alphabet is time consuming, as it is in batches of 50, but one does not have to key in Polish letters.
I hope this helps.
