I have a photo of my Husband taken at Osimo which is not far from Ancona
and Loretto; it is dated July 1944 and I believe Ancona was taken during
that month. So the earliest date of the cemetery commencement would have
to be from July onwards and the last date for completion would be 1946.
I know my Husband was amongst the last to leave Italy arriving in England
in January 1947.
Perth, Western Australia.
Hello Audrey and Everyone,
Excellent site... Wow, its going to take some time to get thru all of these.
Does anyone who has contacted the site's custodian know if there is other
chronological information, etc. associated with these pictures and whether that
will be posted as some later date?
Does anyone know the date that the dates associated with the cemetery
Loretto I assume. This is section 136, middle strip of pictures. I recognized
the stone walls and backdrop from an old picture of my fathers. It shows him
kneeling beside his brother's grave (Tadeusz Mitura). From what I recall the
site was completed in the picture. So the only thing I know is that he is still
in uniform and it is some time before he left for Canada under the farm
Does anyone know roughly the date of these pictures (section 136) and when
construction was started/completed?
