Dziadzius forwarded his post to the Group in error. He was responding
to a private email I had sent him.
Not to point a finger at anyone including Dziadzius, but I have noticed
that not all our members know how a mail list such as our "Group"
functions. All Group members should realize that this is, in fact, a mail
list. As members of a mail list, all members will receive Group
email (posts) that have been sent directly to the list and are read by
its members. Also from time to time, members will receive
private emails sent from one member to another. These
are neither sent to the Group nor meant to be read by the Group, but
are strictly from one member to another. Some examples
when private emails are appropriate are: when the subject is
off topic, perhaps to say thanks, asking "May I also have one," or "I
was in the chat room and you didn't answer," or similar situations when it is
simply better to write privately rather than to the entire
Private emails should be treated the same as any email sent from one
person to another. The rule is: Private emails
are NEVER sent to a mail list. Sometimes
honest mistakes do happen. We have all done this by accident, myself
Another good rule of thumb is never forward an email to a mail
list such as ours, especially without the writer's
permission. No forward; no trouble; no mistakes.
Sometimes it can get confusing and one may not know or forget to check to
see if they are responding to a group or private email, and again sometimes it
is simply an honest mistake.
In this Group there are three ways to read our posts:
1. by single emails (list format) in which one will always see
that the Group's identifier [Kresy-Siberia]
appears in the subject line before the actual subject
2. in Digest form where the day's posts are all put together into
one single email
For those interested, I've linked Netiquette below. It wouldn't
hurt to read or reread the following, and we may actually learn
something! Chapter 6 is for mail lists in particular, but there are
appropriate chapters for lists throughout the entire book: http://www.albion.com/netiquette/book/index.html
Hopefully no harm done! I forgive you, Dziadzius!
