In pre-war Poland children started school at age of 7. In some cases they started at 6. The elementary educationtion was as follows: after 6 years they could go to Gimnazjum (Gimnazjum Ogolnoksztalcace)giving them gerenal education, which was 4 years and then 2 years of Liceum. This was preparation for university. If they did not plan to go to university they could stay in Gimnazjum for another year and that would complete they mid-education. To Technical Gimnazjum they were accepted after 2 years o Gimnazjum Ogolnoksztalcace and they were there for 2 years. After that they had 2 years of Technical Liceum. Upon graduation they would receive a diploma of a techician (Technik). This was equivalent to an Associated Degree in the USA which one gets upon graduation from a Community College in the USA, or a National Certificate in the UK.
