Did Polish officers have a batman as a rule, or was
this something that was picked up once they got
involved with the Brits?
A batman is a personal servant to an officer. He
shines his shoes, cleans his uniforms, fetches his tea
in the morning. This was a custom in the British
forces up to the end of WWII and was phased out at
some point post-war, I believe.
