Group Description

KodiakBirding is for discussion of Kodiak Alaska birding and wild birds. Suggested topics are bird sightings, status, distribution, behavior, identification and birding locations. This group focuses on the Kodiak archipelago, from Shuyak Island to the Trinity Islands, but some posts about nearby areas (eg Bristol Bay and the Katmai coast) and even other parts of Alaska will no doubt occur. Announcements for Alaska birding trips generally available to the public are also appropriate, although discretion is required. Other Alaskan birding groups in YAHOO GROUPS are: AKBirding (statewide with an emphasis on Anchorage, the Mat valley, and the Kenai Peninsula), Eaglechat (Juneau and SE Alaska), BorealBirder (Interior Alaska) or beringia_birders (far west and northern Alaska).

Forbidden topics include pet birds, cats, virus warnings, politics, and commercial messages (other than brief announcements of Alaska birding trips and festivals.) Every message requires an appropriate subject line. Every posted message must be signed with the sender's first/last name and location. Additional information is allowed, such as telephone numbers, titles, organization, etc., as long as the information does not constitute advertising. Attachments are prohibited to prevent viruses and other malware. All applicants are required to use their first and last name when subscribing to the list, and must include some background information, such as birding history, interest in Alaska birding, or something similar. This is to prevent spammers from accessing the list. New members are moderated until they post a message to the list.
