You met Jose Pizarro at last year’s New England District Convention . His Eagle Service Project was to present B.E.L.T.S. To 2,150 second grade children in 108 classrooms in Hartford, and design and install “Buckle Up Safety Belt” signs in 40 school parking lots in Hartford. Refreshments will be served.January 18, 2009The Kiwanis Club of Sheffield (MA) has scheduled their Annual Pancake Breakfast on January 18th. This year there will be a Breakfast Extravaganza Buffet served from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Mt. Everett High School cafeteria on Berkshire School Road in Sheffield. The Buffet is cosponsored by the Mt. Everett chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). The breakfast benefits teachers at the local schools who will receive grants to buy supplies not funded by the schools. Tickets are $8.00 each with students 12 and under for $4.00. In the spirit of Kiwanis and making a difference one child at a time, our 8 honorees are people who have “lit the way for children” and volunteered their time to help children including a fire fighter, police officer, resident and 5 high school seniors who will also receive a $500 scholarship. The events will be held from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Town Hall Auditorium, 50 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT.There will be great food and silent auction items as well as live jazz music. Ask anyone who went last year, it’s a fun time and a great opportunity to INTERCLUB! This is a 501c3 foundation event so a portion of the ticket price is tax deductible! For tickets, please contact Claudia Bowles at 860-313-0101 or <KiwanisWH@...>.February 3, 2009The Kiwanis Club of Seekonk (MA) will hold their 13th Taste of the Town from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the Johnson & Wales Inn on Route 44 in Seekonk. All proceeds are to help families of children aged 6 months to 6 years who need to work but cannot afford the cost of child care. There will be food tasting from many of the area’s finest restaurants and wine tasting offered by many wine vendors. Raffles of certificates from the restaurants and other exhibitions will be available. Donations are $30.00 per ticket and are available from the Town Clerk (508)336-2921, Lori (508)399-8289, Edith (508)336-8130 and Bev (508)336-9352.February 14, 2009One of the highlights of the year for the Kiwanis Club of Sheffield (MA) is the drawing of the winning tickets for their Annual Truck Raffle. The proceeds of this raffle go into the Scholarship Fund. This year the drawing will be held at 8:00pm on Friday, February 14th at The Bridge Restaurant in Sheffield. Tickets are on sale now for $50.00 each. The first prize winner will have a choice of a new GMC truck or $15,000.00 cash; second prize is $1,500.00 and third prize is $500.00. Check here for further information as we get closer to the auction.APRIL 4, 2009KIWANIS ONE DAY OF SERVICEAPRIL 5, 2009The Kiwanis Club of Sheffield (MA) will observe Kiwanis One Day, weather permitting, by staging a seven community roadside cleanup. On that day, members will go to each of the seven communities served by the club and pick up winter debris along roads specified by local selectmen. This project will enhance the scenery for tourists and local residents.MAY 8-15, 2009Gov Dick England has the 2009 Cruise to Bermuda, and Official Governor’s Visit, planned. The camp is for children with special needs, ages 8-18 that want to learn to ride a bicycle without training wheels. The camp has been the only one of its kind in New England.Children from divisions around New England have benefited in so many ways, not only by learning to ride but by putting them on an equal level with other kids and increasing their self esteem.
