      Effective October 4th the new hours for the District Office will be:

      Mondays: 9am-3pm
      Tuesdays: 9am-3pm
      Wednesdays: 9am-4pm
      Thursdays: 9am-4pm
      Fridays: 9am-3pm

      OPERATION HOLIDAY CHEER is expanding across New England and New York this holiday season. Operation Holiday Cheer acknowledges the sacrifices being made by the children of all military families living in New England or New York including the Coast Guard, National Guard, Reserves, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines by offering them a high quality holiday gift. At the request of a member of a military family, Operation Holiday Cheer will provide an age and gender appropriate gift to each child ranging from newborn to age 16.       The Kiwanis Club of Fairfield (CT) is holding it’s annual holiday Poinsettia sale. Large florist quality plants in 8 inch foil wrapped pots will again be offered in either red or white. Plants are $25.00 each. Free delivery is available in the Fairfield area with the purchase of 5 or more plants. Orders must be made in advance and plant pick up(s) will take place at Spear Miller Funeral Home, at 30 South Benson Road, Saturday, November 29th and on Saturday, December 13th from 8am to 11am on both days.       The Kiwanis Club of East Bridgewater (MA) will hold their Annual Christmas on the Common, “Silver Bells, a 25 year celebration.” The Christmas Parade kicks off at 11:00am. From 9:00am to 4:00pm at EBHS & Town Common will be the arts & crafts, hospitality tent, food entertainment. There will be the So. Shore Community Band, a dance, wood carver, magician, train & pony rides for the kids, raffles, giveaways & lots more! A 25 Year Tradition. Join Us!       KPTI OPEN HOUSE - On December 13th, members of the Kiwanis Family of New England and their guests will have the opportunity to visit the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, the home of the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute. Registration will begin at 10:00 and the welcome will be at 10:30. Over the course of the day, there will be speakers on pediatric trauma related topics, updates on the activities of KPTI, tours of the trauma units in the hospital and an opportunity to network with fellow members and hospital staff. A suggested donation of $5.00 per person is asked to cover the expense of lunch that is offered.       The Kiwanis Club of Hartford (CT) would like to announce a Piano Recital by Benjamin Dix to benefit the Burns Academy of Latino Studies. Concert is at 3:00pm in the Unitarian Meeting House, 50 Bloomfield Avenue (at junction of Route 44 and Route 179). Donation is $15.00.       The Kiwanis Club of New London (CT) will be doing a Christmas Program with children from the Salvation Army’s Youth Program, Wednesday, December 17th at the Officers Club at the United States Coast Guard Academy at 12:15pm. Club members are asked to adopt a child and buy an article of clothing as a primary gift. Santa Claus is expected to make an appearance.

      DECEMBER 18, 2008

      The Kiwanis Club of Westfield will join with the local Rotary Club for a Kids Christmas Party. This event brings two service clubs together to make the holiday season a better one for those youth who come from difficult situations. The Kids’ Christmas Party will be held Thursday, December 18th on the second floor of the School Street Bistro. The format will be:
      Christmas Stockings will be on the tree at meetings for members to choose a special child for whom they wish to buy a gift.
      They are asking that each member buy a toy and article of clothing valued in the $50.00 range.
      All gifts should be wrapped with the child’s stocking attached.
      Gifts should be dropped off at weekly Kiwanis or Rotary Club meetings OR at the Boys & Girls Club by Friday, December 12th.

      DECEMBER 20, 2008

      The Kiwanis Club of New London (CT) will be Bell Ringing on Saturday, December 20th at the Crystal Mall, 9:00am - 7:00pm at the following entries - Charlie’s Eating & Drinking Saloon, JC Penney and the Christmas Tree Shop. Club members will be needed to staff the three location in 2 hour shifts throughout the day.

      DECEMBER 21, 2008

      The Kiwanis Club of Hanson (MA) will be holding their “53rd Consecutive Christmas Sing” on Sunday, December 21st from 2:00 to 4:00pm. It will be hosted by the family of & Mary Mullen with assistance from friends, neighbors, and the Kiwanis Club of Hanson. Join us for this Hanson family tradition. Come back with them to days of old when smiles warmed us from the cold. Old-fashioned wishes, yet so sincere. For a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.       The Kiwanis Club of Dennis Yarmouth (MA) will hold their Christmas/Holiday Party on December 22nd (Pres Dan Holmes’ birthday). Social time will be 6:00pm and dinner will be at 6:30pm. There will be a choice of Prime Rib, or Chicken Marsala or Baked Stuffed Scrod with lobster sauce for $28.00 per person. There will not be a Yankee Swap, instead bring a new toy unwrapped to be given to Toys for Tots.

      MARK YOUR CALENDARS: The Kiwanis Club of West Hartford (CT) will again be holding their Annual Awards Night, “STARS FOR KIDS - People Lighting the Way for Children.” Awards will be given to people in the community who have “lit the way for children” including a fire fighter, police officer, resident and 5 high school seniors who will also each receive a scholarship. The events will be held from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Town Hall Auditorium, 50 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT.  So mark your calendars, more information will be available soon. 

      There will be great food and silent auction items as well as live music from the award-winning Conard Jazz Band. It’s a fun time and a great opportunity to INTERCLUB!       The Kiwanis Club of West Hartford (CT) is hosting their 4th Annual “Lose the Training Wheels” bicycle camp in West Hartford, CT. The camp is for children with special needs, ages 8-18 that want to learn to ride a bicycle without training wheels. The camp has been the only one of its kind in New England.

      Children from divisions around New England have benefited in so many ways, not only by learning to ride but by putting them on an equal level with other kids and increasing their self esteem.       Come hear the story of Dixie Coskie and her son, Paul who suffered a
      traumatic brain injury and their family’s struggle to understand and cope
      with his injury. Dixie has written a riveting book about their experience
      “Unthinkable, A Mother’s Tragedy, Terror, and Triumph through A Child’s
      Traumatic Brain Injury”.

      Their story is amazing, powerful and inspiring. All are welcome to attend.
