      The Kiwanis Club of Danbury (CT) will hold it’s 8TH Annual “Kiwanis for Kids Breakfast and Silent Auction. This event awards scholarships to area HighSchool Seniors, Recognizes the Key Club Student of the Year for each of the six sponsored Key Clubs and highlights the positive contribution that Kiwanis makes to the community.       The Kiwanis Club of Windsor (CT) will be conducting their annual hanging basket flower sale during April. We buy our hanging baskets directly from the grower and arrange for their delivery for pickup on May 7th the day before Mother’s Day. Flower selection includes geranium, New Guinea Impatiens, Million Bells and combination baskets. The price per basket is $17 and orders can be placed by calling 860-688-0837.

      On Saturday, May 7TH, put on your Derby bonnet and warm up your vocal cords, soon you’ll be singing “My Old Kentucky Home” with tears in your eyes. It’s a short ride to the <Buythecase.net> Conference Center, 1 Proprietors Drive, Marshfield, MA, for KENTUCKY DERBY 137. Sip a mint julep, make a wager on your favorite horse and watch the hats parade by. There will be prizes awarded for best bonnets. There’s nothing else like the Kentucky Derby. Before the Kentucky Derby, we will be featuring 14 sealed races on a wide screen; you will be provided with a racing program and will be able to bet Win, Place or Show and place Daily Doubles. They will be taking bets on the Kentucky Derby and will have betting sheets available 2 weeks before the Derby. We will announce where you can pick them up. They will be serving pizza, Hamburg sliders, Chicken sliders and Sausage Sliders free of charge. There will also be a cash bar available.       NEWINGTON The long awaited reopening of the nonprofit Kiwanis Club's Big K Flea Market for bargain shoppers happened on May 1 in Newington's Market Square Free Parking Lot and will open every Sunday from 8 AM to 2 PM for the following two months May and June weather permitting. Entrance is at 39 East Cedar St. (CT Route 175) Newington. Attracting sightseers and bargain seekers from all parts of Connecticut and nearby Massachusetts for 20 weeks each year since 1992, this event has become an inexpensive Sunday morning recreational and shopping destination  for many, especially as an after-church activity. The eyes of eager bargain seekers will feast upon vendor's displays of clothing, electronics, housewares, crafts and almost every kind of exciting items new and used. Kiwanis President Dan Henry expressed a hope that good weather will enable the club to reach its annual goals of helping the community from the funds it raises from space rentals to vendors and arts crafters ($15) and from admissions which are still only $1.       The Kiwanis Club of Fairfield (CT) will be holding their 2ND Annual Fairfield Golf Tournament at the Tashua Knolls Golf Course, 40 Tashua Knolls Lane, Trumbull, CT. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Bridgeport Rescue Mission and Kiwanis Charities. The $175/person entry fee includes: greens fees, golf cart, continental breakfast, lunch, dinner and a gift bag. Non-golfers can attend for $50, which includes lunch and dinner.       Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute 

      Holds Its First Annual Safety Film Fest


      (BOSTON, MA – April 7, 2011) The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute, in association with Tufts MC Adult Trauma Service, is hosting its First Annual Safety Film Fest. Participants have until May 11TH 2011 to upload a video to YouTube with the theme “Keeping Kids Safe.” This all-ages contest is open to everyone. On May 21, 2011, KPTI will hold a screening of the top ten submissions at Tufts Medical Center in Boston at 1 p.m. Space will be limited, so first come, first served. Two grand prizes for the best videos will be awarded. Winners do not have to be present to win. For the official rules, please go to www.kpti.org.

      KPTI is dedicated to the specialized care of pediatric trauma patients and to the health and safety of all children. As a partnership between the New England District of Kiwanis and the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, they have worked together since 1981 providing the highest level of expertise available to treat the most seriously injured children at their Pediatric Emergency Department, an American College of Surgeons verified Pediatric Trauma Center. KPTI is the first pediatric trauma center in the world to provide medical care for injured children, medical research on pediatric trauma, and injury prevention programs for children and families. Their Community Safety Programs reach more than 33,000 children and their families each year in New England alone.

      The Kiwanis Club of Manchester (NH) will hold their Annual “Fish with a Child” from 8 till noon on Saturday, May 14TH. It will be held at the Londonderry Fish and Game Club. It is designed to give young boys and girls from center Manchester the opportunity to enjoy a morning of excellent trout fishing. In many cases, it’s the first time they’ve even held a rod and reel. What a joy it is to see the proud smiles as they pull in a fish for the first time! The trout are even cleaned and bagged for them to be taken home. Along with the poles and fish, each child will take home an official Fish with a Child trophy to commemorate the day.       Traumatic Brain Injury”.

      Their story is amazing, powerful and inspiring. All are welcome to attend.
