Once again the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield (CT) is undertaking their annual literacy challenge. The club is sponsoring a town-wide book drive that runs from April 4 through April 15, 2011. It will involve the collection of new and gently used books that will be donated to “Read to Grow Inc,” for distribution to Connecticut communities with a need, to encourage literacy, joy of reading and most importantly to promote early language development. These books should be appropriate for children of all ages up to the 8th grade reading level. Please go through your closets, attics and basements and see what you can donate to help underprivileged children. Collection bins will be placed in both branches of the Fairfield Public Library and all the town’s public schools (K-12) as well as several of the town’s private nursery schools. The Kiwanis Club of Fairfield has found this cause to be an excellent way of involving the entire family in giving back to the community while also encouraging literacy on a town-wide level. For additional information or to locate a collection bin please contact Tove Vanderblue at 203-255-4716.

It's that time of year again. We need to get together and elect a Lt. Governor for 2011-12, and hopefully a Lt. Governor Elect for 2012-13. It will be held a Lorenzo's Restaurant in Middleboro, on Tuesday, April 12TH, at 6:30 P.M. This is an important meeting, since it will shape our vision into next year. Please make an effort to get all our clubs represented (we need a majority of clubs for a quorum). To have every club represented would be a tremendous boost. Last Sunday's Governor's Visit was great with some 45 Kiwanians in attendance. The food was outstanding, the program excellent, and we adjourned right on time. If you missed it, you missed a lot of fun and Kiwanis fellowship. Please try to make this one! There is a choice of 9 entrees for $9.95. Please let us know as soon as possible if you will be coming. Thanks, Jim <LevesqueJ2msn.com>.

OK EVERYONE, IT IS THAT TIME AGAIN!! “Bob Tandy has announced that this year there will be an important change for this year’s cruise! On this cruise, Bermudians will be able to fly to Boston and CRUISE home with us (and then stay in Bermuda, of course). Although it sounds simple, it has taken a few years for Bob to get this coordinated with Norwegian Cruise Lines. In the past, there were restrictions that prevented this kind of arrangement. Let’s encourage participation, people that have gone before, tell everyone what a great time you had & tell them they should try it out! The more Kiwanians that go, the more fun we will have!” Thanks PG John for the info!
