All new announcements will be shown in blue each week, the announcements in green are for the District or Int’l. events.August 8, 2008OLYMPICS BEGIN!August 9, 2008The Kiwanis Club of St. Johnsbury (VT) will be holding their first Child I.D. Project at the Father Lively Center. It is being sponsored by Dairy Association, Bag Balm and several other businesses. The Caledonia County Sheriff’s Department will be assisting the club. This will take place in conjunction with SummerFest in St. Johnsbury. The children have their pictures taken, their fingerprints & DNA are also recorded. The children will receive a plastic ID card with their picture & other pertinent information on it.The Kiwanis Club of Standish (ME) will be celebrating their 80th Anniversary at their beach on Watchic Lake. Dinner will be served at 2:00pm and adult dinner is $25 per person and will be a choice of lobster or steak as well as hotdogs and hamburgers. Children’s dinners will only be $5. The entry fee is $380.00 per foursome and includes: greens fees, golf cart, contests, complete dinner, raffles and the auction. Registration begins at 7:00am; Shotgun Start at 8:30am. Please contact Nancy Yorgy if you would like to help.SEPTEMBER 6, 2008The Kiwanis Club of Sheffield (MA) will hold their Annual Steakroast on Saturday, September 6th. The steaks will be roasted at the Sheffield Town Park Pavilion, off Miller Avenue, just west of the main village. The menu: charcoal grilled NY stripsteak, baked potato, corn-on-the-cob, various salads and your choice of many home made desserts, plus a beer, wine or soda. The cost is $25 per person for the steak dinner; there is a children’s menu of a hot dog or hamburger, corn and soda for only $5.00 each. There also will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffles. The roast is once again being conducted with the assistance of the Sheffield volunteer fire department and any proceeds will be divided with the fire department to help their building fund. The Kiwanis portion of the portions is put into the scholarship fund. Last year the fire department received $3,000 as their share. Dinner is being served from 5 until 7pm, no reservations required. This is a juried fair with hand made items in many media forms. The Club is currently seeking applicants for this Fair as well. There will also be their regionally famous hot dog & burgers for sale. They will also sell florist quality mum plants and have an extraordinary crafters raffle. The Fair is held on historic Town Hall Green, corner of Old Post & Beach Roads. It will be held at the Maine Medical Center, 22 Bramhall St, Portland, ME 04102 in Classroom #4 - Dana Health Education Center. The cost is $25 per person. In order for your club to earn “Distinguished Club” status, Kiwanis International requires your club President and Secretary to have taken this course within one year prior to taking office. Your instructor will be Lt Governor Paul Bernard (Division 5) who is a Certified CLE Instructor. Please note: Leadership Education Manual will be provided at the session. Bring a copy of your club’s bylaws. If you can’t find one, contact Kiwanis International and they will mail one to you (800-KIWANIS). Dress is casual. They will invite Kiwanis Officials to officiate; Government officials will welcome out-of-towners. Dinner will be at 6pm at the Paradise Restaurant, 10 East Street, New Britain, CT. They hope Kiwanians from area clubs will join with them. The train can carry upwards of 350 passengers. This train is a special run just for Kiwanis to help this worthy cause. It will depart from Conway, NH at 11am and return at 5:30pm.
