Date: Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 4:52 PMDiane,Has Sheryl rescheduled the trip (in the Great swamp) that she had been planning to do on May 15th? It seems as though she should because FrOGS uses their trips as fund-raisers.Networking.. ..when it comes to scheduling trips....is a good thing. This is especially true ofsmaller areas where it could get to be very crowded and even dangerous.Thanks.Salley

I don't usually forward meet-ups from other groups, but this is a good example of online networking. I found out at the Kasual Kayakers planning meeting that FROGS (friends of the Great Swamp) was giving guided tours and providing boats the same day and from the same launch site as Sheryl scheduled this meet-up. So I'll let Sheryl know about the Frogs Program (pasted). I personally think the Great Swamp is more fun in March & April when the Croton River is overflowing and one gets to yell "Help...I'm lost in the Great Swamp" and someone else probably just as lost gets to yell "I think the creek is over here". Anyway...here is FROGS guided paddle info:5/15-16/10 Great Swamp Guided/Gear Provided Tours
also Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6
Departures scheduled for: 8:15 AM, 10:15 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM
Explore the Swamp with FrOGS. Meet us at the Green Chimney's Beach on Doansburg Road (formerly Putnam Lake Road ) of Rte 22. FrOGS members will guide each trip and point out the birds and plants as we canoe.
All levels of paddlers are welcome. We will provide canoes, paddles, Life jackets (bring your won if you wish) and a licensed Lifeguard. What: Great Swamp Spring Paddle!
When: Saturday, May 15, 2010 9:30 AM
Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)
Let's go explore the Great Swamp in springtime and hope the water is high. The Great Swamp is a wonderful place which is unique and windy in Patterson, NY. I will try to check it out before we go just in case we need to change our plans. We did this trip in the fall, it was great for wildlife and a relaxing slow paddle. Check out a website for it at http://www.nature. org....
Meet at the Newburgh Beacon Bridge entrance at 8:30am (just to the right - vacant parking lot)...caravan to exit 19 (Carmel, Rt. 312). Exit left onto 312. Travel to the end. Make a left onto 22, go one traffic light, go right on Doansburg Rd, County Rt. 65, small sign for Green Chimneys School, just past Police Station....Go to 400 Doansburg Rd, Green Chimneys School. Make a left opposite their Parking Lot 3 into large parking lot with a pavilion at the far end....that' s our parking lot, go to the far end. Carry your kayak through the pavilion as the gate is locked, we will put in there.....BRING LUNCH, we will be enjoying the day!!! It's about 6 miles from exit 19.
FROM exit 20 on 84, head north on 22, turn on Doansburg Rd, follow as above to Green Chimneys School...... 5 miles......
Bring a lunch, we will probably do dinner or late afternoon meal depending on time.
Heavy rain cancels, or thunderstorms. Check your green blobs on Weather.com that day if thunderstorms are in the forecast, I will post cancelations by 7:30am if need be. Remember to send me your cell if I don't have it.
Car caravan from the parking lot at the base of the Newburgh/Beacon bridge at 9:30am sharp. Put 'caravan' in your RSVP if you will join us for that. Bring lunch, change of clothes, water, hat, sunscreen, camera, PFD and don't forget your paddle!! Meet at Green Chimneys at roughly 10:15.
Please read the disclaimer if you've never paddled with us, PFD mandatory, please be properly equipped and paddle safe. See you on the water!! :-)
