Seal watching tours
I wrote Empire Kayaks, the group that we signed up with the past couple of years that got cancelled because of bad weather. They responded with a link to the location where they launch and said that seals were already there. Since those of us who wanted to go have their own wet (3mm) or dry/semi dry suits maybe we should just head down there on our own as Empire Kayak suggests. Those without appropriate cold water attire or boats of course would need to rent from a group like Empire Kayaks. Another option would be to go with the Sebago canoe club when they go out onto Jamaica Bay. Diane

Date: Monday, November 28, 2011, 11:11 AMHi Diane,
We haven't scheduled our seal trips for this winter yet but will post them online when we do. That said, I've always been a little apprehensive in the past of having participants with such a long drive being a part of the tour. There are sometimes when a decision about a trip taking place cannot be made in time to inform them before they get on the road or arrive and I would hate for that to happen.
Seals have already been spotted in the area we paddle from at Jones Beach Field #10. If you and the Kingston Paddle Pals find a day with nice weather and you're free, you could do it on your own. It's open to the public every day and it's free to launch.

This is the Diane from the Kingston, NY kayak group. Bad weather has cancelled the seal watch tours for us the past two years, but we're hoping third time will be the charm. When will your seal watching tours be this year?
