Today's State Journal says the Governor's Derby Train will run this year for the first time since 2008.

The cost is underwritten by private donation and "each person who travels on the train will have to pay a fee".

      CSX is providing the train.

It will arrive Thursday before the Derby and park on the old yard lead by the Commonwealth Credit Union.

Schedueled to depart Frankfort at 9:45 AM.

If it done like it was in 2008, Corman's train will clear Frankfort then Governor's Train will take the main.  It will probably stop in front of the Old Capitol to load.

This train is charted by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.  And the passengers are guests of the Governor.  It is like when Toyota used to charter Corman's dinner train for their Derby Train.  Even though it was Corman's equipment, it was Toyota's Derby Train.  It just like the last time a POTUS train ran on CSX.  CSX crew, CSX track, and CSX equipment but it was the President of the United States' train.

Last year CSX ran their own train.  It was a CSX affair.  The Commonwealth was not involved in it.  This year the Governor's Office has charted it.  CSX is just the contractor.

Go down the CCU parking lot and watch supplies being loaded on the train and the Derby decorations being put up in it.  The last time I went down to watch this, it was state government vehicles delivering the supplies to the train and state government employees doing the work.  If it is CSX's train then why are state employees doing the work?

It the same practice for charter, whether it be for the Indy 500, an World Series Trip, or special Amtrak trip.
