Don't know how many of you have caught up with this or even how many are interested!
After many years of waiting, New Zealand BMD indixes are finally online and searchable.
The website was launched by the Department of Internal Affairs.
The good news:
Unlike the microfiche indices for the period, the parents' names are included in births, spouse name with marriages, and age/date of birth in the deaths' index.
The bad news:
"quote from website"
The historic data available for you to search is limited so that information relating to people who might still be alive, can be protected. Information available includes:
a.. Births that occurred at least 100 years ago
b.. Stillbirths that occurred at least 50 years ago
c.. Marriages and eventually Civil Unions that occurred 80 years ago
d.. Deaths that occurred at least 50 years ago or the deceased's date of birth was at least 80 years ago.
Still, very much better than nothing!
(note: surname and start / finish dates appear to be the only mandatory fields).
