Group Description

This website is set up to provide updates and coordination of those volunteers and others conducting seasonal hawk migration surveys at the Jewel Basin. Our ridgeline monitoring site is in the Flathead National Forest of nw Montana, and has proven to be a prime site for monitoring passing Accipiters in particular, although 18 raptor species were seen at the site during one or more of the 2008-2015 monitoring seasons. The primary purpose of this website is provide a means of coordinating survey efforts while minimizing impacts at the hawk watch site. It provides the opportunity to share results in real time, and to create efficiencies in volunteer efforts. It also provides a clearinghouse for data forms, photos, and other training and relevant materials.

Check the links to the left for the 2008-2014 data and final reports, data forms, links to other relevant sites (e.g. weather forecast for the site), and photos.

The Hawk Watch has been a cooperative effort between American Bird Conservancy, Flathead National Forest and Flathead Audubon. Contact Dan Casey, (406.270.5941 cell)
