Group Description

The purpose of this site is to share information about the Jet Nautilus, a model RC submarine, unique in design and operation. (It also serves as a repository to document some other interests) Possibly others may want to construct such a model and could benefit from the many years of effort and experimentation bringing this sub to its current development. Pictures in the Photos section show the various stages of development.

The model uses bilge pumps for propulsion and directional movement. When I decided to build an RC Nautilus I discovered the typical components used to make a model submarine were very complicated and prone to electrical and physical failure. The Jet Nautilus is the essence of simplicity in design and operation, however it has taken awhile to develop and perfect the system to its current version. There are no moving parts (except for the pumps themselves), no servos, no dive plains, no movable rudder, no prop (to get tangled in weeds), no air pumps or bladder, the sub is a dynamic diver.

YouTube videos document the development over time and while there may be little visual distinction between the versions much has changed internally and is described here. While the hull used to develop the system was the Nautilus it is not limited to this hull design. Other subs/hulls could be used although I have not ventured from the hull discussed here at this point. A 4ft hull is about the minimum size to fit all the pumps and electrics.
