Group Description

This list was started to coordinate the development and implementation of the proposal for a December 25, 2001, schedule of events beginning with a sunrise ceremony in Bethlehem to recognize the 2000th birthday anniversary of Lord Jesus Christ, followed by a peace council and a mid-day walk of the approximately four miles to Jerusalem Israel for an arrival prayer ceremony followed by a peace council and a sunset interfaith prayer ceremony.

Due to hostilities during 2001 this walk did not manifest then but on July 28, 2005, the inspiration to try again came after a few friends conducted a local World Peace Walk event in San Jose from City Hall to Plaza Cesar Chavez, inspired by the concurrent Epic Walk for Global Nuclear Disarmament from San Francisco to the New Mexico Trinity First Atomic Test Site carrying a flame from the embers of the Hiroshima atomic bombing which they extinguished there on August 9.

With internetworking help from Manchester UK Dr. David Leighton (MD surgeon retired) of Wadi Rum Jordan, we tried unsucessfully for August 15, 2005, and successfully on Christmas 2006 to manifest the Bethlehem to Jerusalem Interfaith Peace Prayer Circle Pilgrimage, starting in the rain at sunrise in Bethlehem with twelve Peacewalkers conducting the circle and ending with a couple dozen in the closing circle ceremony in Jerusalem.
