Due to recent abuse of HamSpots.net with people signing in using the
Callsigns of other users and posting inappropriate spots, other
malicious activity and hiding behind changing IP addresses provided by
anonymous proxy servers. I will be introducing Callsign/Password
      authentication.

Rather than the current honour system of Callsign only to access the
chat/spotting features of the site. Users will need to register their
Callsign with a password and email address verification if they wish to
participate in chats, local spotting and view the lists of their
      callsign spotted and sent spots.

It wont be mandatory to register your Callsign, as read-only access will
still be available without any chatting or spotting facilities like the
current system when not signed in.

When registering your callsign, a valid email address is needed as that
will receive an email allowing you to activate your account. There will
be options for resending activation emails and password recovery.

I was reluctant to do this and HamSpots has been running without issue
for several years but recent events has forced this change.

      Regards
      Laurie, VK3AMA
