Here are some ideas for the Isles to possibly get on a better radio station
if they ever got their butts in gear and woke up and decided to market
themselves like a professional team-
710 WOR - The Isles used to be on this station many years ago. This would
be the best choice as it's a strong signal and well-known and they could
share coverage with the Nets much like the Ranger$ do with the Knicks on
WFAN. They would need a spillover channel much like the Devils and Ranger$
have when Nets games conflict. Would cost money but is worth it if they
want to be heard.
1130 Bloomberg Newsradio - Isles would be only sports team on an all news
network. Not likely but is doable. Can do anything if price is right and
are willing to pay.
1050 WEVD - New Disney owned outlet offers possible opportunity. Devil
spillover games are likely to be on here, as Disney owns WABC and ESPN,
when Yankee/Seton Hall games are on WABC. Again, anything is doable if
Isles want to pay to get on the air and want to be heard.
570 Christian Radio used to be WMCA - Isles were on this station in the
70s. John Sterling and his "Islander goal" call came here.
Not very likely to get on this station for obvious reasons.
There is another station on the upper most end of the AM dial where Devil
spillover games are currently broadcast when the Yankees/SH are on WABC.
This would be a good likely spot as it's cheap but it's Disney owned.
Forget WFAN and WABC as their contracts are set.
Or, they could try FM and some of the strong signal Infinity owned stations
like 92.3 K-Rock and 102.7 WNEW which is all talk now instead of music.
God, anything but the crap station they're now on. I might have gone off
on this radio topic but it really bugs me for many reasons. Not the least
of which is when I grew up I became a fan of the Isles playing street
hockey in the driveway with the Isles games on the radio. And also, my
elderly Mom likes to listen to games on radio as her eyes bother her and
she can't watch. But most importantly it's pathetically embarrassing that
the Isles can't be heard on radio in NY as a way to reach fans and build
the fan base.
