> If Dafoe is smart he will not sign a contract under any
circumstances. How often does a goaltender as talented and as young
as Dafoe come along? Pretty much never. The only exception was in 98-
99 when Cujo,Richter, and Beezer all became free agents. Joseph got
the money he wanted and went to his boyhood favorite team. As you all
know I am a big fan of Lord Byron and I would love it if the Isles
signed him next year or even traded for him this year at a reduced
I like Dafoe also. Mostly because I watched him a few years ago
when he was having a great year. What he gives the Bruins when he is
healthy and on his game is something I wanted here.
Next year he becomes unrestricted. I really think you have to have
an idea what is next with DiPietro and the obligation to Snow before
you can move on that one. And if Dafoe has a great year Boston will
find a way to keep him, they have to. If Salficky becomes Roman
Chechmanek all bets are off and the Isles have their goalie.
As far as putting him in the Cujo, Richter, Beezer class ? All
three of those goaltenders have been good goaltenders in the
playoffs. Dafoe has to have a 1997 Richter playoff, or do what Beezer
did in Florida before making that class of goaltenders. Right now I
think he is a slight notch below.
