(July 2) The Islanders saw a lot of Wade Dubielewicz at the
University of Denver over the last two seasons while keeping an eye
on his team and the organization's prospect defenseman, Ryan
Caldwell. "Coming off his junior year, Wade was getting a lot of
attention from teams," said Islanders pro scout Kevin Maxwell. "Then
he got hurt in his senior year and may have fallen off some radar

The Islanders gave Dubielewicz that shot last month, signing him to a
one-year contract. It is likely he'll battle for playing time in AHL
Bridgeport under first-year coach Greg Cronin.
An All-America selection as a junior, Dubielewicz has the best career
save percentage in University of Denver history at .926 and is tied
for first on the school's all-time GAA chart (2.20). He won his
second consecutive WCHA goaltending title in 2001-02 with a 1.80 GAA
and was a Hobey Baker Award finalist after posting a record of 20-4.
Dubielewicz posted just one loss on the road in 2001-02, finishing
with an NCAA-best .943 save percentage. As a senior, Dubielewicz saw

Maxwell shares his scouting report, based on his views and the
comments of Islanders scout Brian Hunter: "Wade's a sound goaltender
with little wasted movement. He squares to the shooter and challenges
shooters at the top of the crease. Brian Hunter felt that even when
he was slowed by the hamstring injury, he battled hard and played
well. He's also a quality person and as you can tell from his career
record so far, a winner. We love the idea that he was quick to get to
Long Island this summer to prepare for his first pro season and get
to meet some of his new teammates."
Like several of the Islanders prospects, Dubielewicz has been on Long
Island taking part in informal workouts.
