> I am new to this list. I live in Michigan, just outside of
Detroit. (I know I just made myself so popular.) I know you all
feel about the Wings and how they are buying the Cup. Well, I, as a
longtime Wings fan, completely agree with you. However, that will
make it no less sweet when we win. And, I know many of you feel they
won't win because of all the hype or whatever. All I can say is that
it will be a total embarrassment if we don't. There will be
absolutely no excuse. >>>>
Welcome to our little list. We have fans from everywhere here so
please do not let that stop you for a second. Most of the messages
are Islanders or SoundTigers, but it's a hockey list and anything
hockey is fair game around here.
I can't blame the Wings for the system (they did not set the rules)
even though I go all out to blame the Rangers, that's just me.
As far as the Wings, I think your being a bit hard on them. Five
teams are going to break one hundred points and there is no shame if
they lose to one of them along the way. Most times teams that finish
first overall do not win the Stanley Cup. And I really think any team
that get's in can win this year.
I would say at this point the standings are the barometer, but you
really get the best idea just before the playoffs begin to see if
they are hitting that stride that says something special is happening
with them. My biggest concern if I were looking at them to win is
Hasek because despite what is written he has never won anything, and
the last few playoffs was not the only reason the Sabres won. I want
to see the pressure on him if he let's in a bad goal in Detroit
because the reaction will be a lot different than it was in Buffalo.
> I just read what Kevin wrote about Dino coming back and I really
don't know if that will happen. Dino and Scotty had problems getting
along. (The same proglems getting along is why Aaron Ward left.)
Scotty is a jerk and if you're at all on his bad side, that's
misery. And, re-signing Larry Murphy would have been the most
terrible idea ever. He is extremely slow. Yes, our team is very old
but they can still play like they're young...or at least younger.
Murphy couldn't. I could be wrong, but I'll be surprised to see the
Wings make a huge move for another veteran. >>>>
I think the move they have is Kasparaitis because they can offer
talent the Isles do not have or can afford. On top of that there is
the money to resign him and if they win a cup he is going to want to
stay for sure. Sorry, but not a Scotty Bowman fan (maybe because I am
more of an Al Arbour fan) but since the Habs he always seems to go
only to teams that have a great chance to win. Funny that he turned
down the Rangers a few times in his career. Cannot figure out why
they need Murphy or Dino and I don't see it happening.
> Just to let you know also, I am not only a huge Wings fan (or a
bandwagon Wings fan.) I also absolutely love the Maple Leafs and I
have been really enjoying following the Islanders this season. I
guess you probably know why I joined the list...Osgood. He's been my
favorite player for his entire career in Detroit and I was devistated
when he left. I am glad he's happy in New York though because I
believe he never got the credit in Detroit he deserves. Just some
thoughts on the situation. >>>
That's kind of interesting, someone who likes the Wings and Leafs
because they used to play in the same conference, until the league
decided the East needed even more tough teams to play against.
Ozzie's an interesting situtation here. The fans totally are
supportive of him and he's earned it and been a good leader. His game
goes up and down and it should be interesting where his career takes
him when Hasek retires and Osgood becomes unrestricted because that
is about the time the Islanders should know about DiPietro and if he
can do the job for them full-time.
