<< Rangers defenseman IGOR ULANOV was a healthy scratch for the 15th
time this season. He reacted bitterly after learning that he had been
put on waivers. "Obviously, I made a mistake when I signed here,"
said Ulanov, who signed a 3-year, $6 million free-agent contract last
summer. GLEN SATHER, the Rangers' president and general manager,
said: "I would expect him to feel like that. But we're doing it
because we want to send him down to the minors so he can get his game
back together again." >>>
Interesting line of defenders that have come to the Rangers via
the cash machine that have been almost complete busts: Quintal,
Lefebvre, Ulanov, Karpa, Brown, Van Impe and when you count the year
Malakhov was injured that's a lot of cash with little results.
Even the Berard signing has not exactly been a complete steal
because he does not put up the points, and still makes some big
mistakes, only he is really into playing hockey. But I think he makes
two mil a year also.
And yes, Malakhov has easily has his best season since 1992-93
with the Islanders, but at the time of his signing that was a lot for
someone who had a rep for lazy play and injuries.
