British Muslim says troops are fair target

      http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2087-1337931,00.html

ONE of Britain’s most prominent Islamic leaders has
declared that British troops are a legitimate target
for Iraqi militants. Dr Ahmad al-Rawi, an Iraqi-born
British passport-holder who has lived in this country
for three decades, is one of 93 Islamic international
scholars who signed a “bayyan” (declaration) in August
supporting uprisings against the “filth of occupation”
by both Iraqis and Palestinians. The signatories
      included five Hamas leaders.

Guns and leaflets, but still no sign of the enemy

      http://news.independent.co.uk/world/asia/story.jsp?story=578106

The army guy was scattering handfuls of Osama bin
Laden leaflets from his Humvee as the heavily-armed
convoy bumped through a mudbrick village on the way to
the Pakistan border, in the unlikely hope that
somebody with information would find them. The
leaflets, designed by a psy-ops team in Fire Base
Salerno, did not mention the $25m (£13.6m) reward but
bore sinister pictures of Bin Laden, his deputy Ayman
al-Zawahiri, and the Taliban leader, Mullah Omar,
looking like evil zombies from a horror film. The
caption in Pashtun mocked them for drawing out a war
      they could not win.

      One killed in Liberia riots

      http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/africa/10/31/liberia.reut/

MONROVIA, Liberia (Reuters) -- One person was killed
on Sunday when mobs of youths rioted on the streets of
the Liberian capital, carrying out apparent revenge
attacks for killings during religious sectarian
violence on Friday, witnesses said. U.N. peacekeeping
troops fired warning shots and used armoured vehicles
to seal off an area of the Paynesville suburb where
gangs of Christian and Muslim youths armed with sticks
and knives fought running battles in the streets.

Holy Ramzan: Be kind to Allah's creatures

      http://nation.ittefaq.com/artman/publish/article_13483.shtml

Islamic brotherhood and fraternal relation in the
Muslim Ummah is an ordained responsibility. To help
one another in times of need and to stand unitedly
against the enemies of Islam and Muslims are the
prominent reasons for this call. This principle and
its realisation may be presented in the context of the
holy Ramzan, which imparts comprehensive training for
our inner advancement. The Holy Quran defines the
relation : "Believers are but brothers, so set things
right between your brothers and observe your duty to
Allah so that you may obtain mercy." (49 : 10)

Iftar Banquets Vanishing in Occupied Iraq

      http://www.islam-online.net/English/News/2004-10/31/article01.shtml

      BAGHDAD, October 31 (IslamOnline.net) – Iraqi mosques
used to host collective iftar banquets in a show of
solidarity among fellow Muslims during the holy
fasting month of Ramadan but under the US-led
occupation of the oil-rich Arab country this is no
more possible. Many Iraqis have steered clear of iftar
banquets, which bring together a quite large number of
people to break the fast together, fearing
      indiscriminate US bombardment and trigger-happy
American soldiers, especially in flashpoint areas.

      Thailand Releases 1,100 Muslim Detainees

      http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-4585316,00.html

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - More than 1,100 Muslims
detained after a riot were freed Saturday, as the
government tried to ease anger in Thailand's restive
south over the deaths of dozens of accused rioters -
including 78 who perished in military custody. The
army also lifted a curfew imposed in parts of
Narathiwat, the province where thousands of Muslim
youths besieged a police station Monday to demand the
release of six men they believed were unjustly accused
of giving arms to Islamic separatists.

Six of NSW's most dangerous prisoners who converted to
radical Islam while in jail are being monitored as
part of a crackdown on threats to national security.
New laws introduced into NSW parliament last week
created two new security classifications for inmates,
to be used specifically to monitor prisoners posing
      special security risks.
