Amtrak specials from New Orleans to DC, IRV alliance on rails
- This is a great opportunity for activists to attend the IRV
festivities in Takoma Park, like Nov. 4-6.
Amtrak just announced 70% discounts on the New Orleans and Charlotte
routes to DC through mid November.
These discounts make it pretty cheap for a fun train ride. Presuming
several IRVers (or many) go on the same train, they can use one area
of the train into an IRV conference or campaign party. (you can
bring your own food and drink etc. to save cash)
The risk is that Amtrak can pull these specials at any time. (Last
week there was Chicago route special to DC for Nov, but no longer
I recommend posting it to your state egroup when you know which
trains you would like to go on. Then everyone else can reserve their
own ticket for the same train while the special is still being
By the end of the ride, probably everyone on the train will know
about IRV. They can attend a rally in Takoma Park when you get off
the train. Seriously, the train riders could easily recruit a couple
hundred attendees for a rally. (The passengers are each meeting
their own people people around DC already)
There can even be an train-born fashion show of all the different
IRV shirts being printed this month.
You can also use the IRVA list to help plan a train-ride to DC.
