FairVote MN Action Alert
Email to the FairVote MN
Dear Instant MN,
Your immediate response is needed to advance the cause of better democracy in Minnesota.
Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer recently formed a committee to recommend upgrades to our election systems. A proposal will soon be drafted and needs your input. As this proposal is funded through the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA), it is a monumental opportunity to consider election improvements like instant runoff voting. But this will not happen without your help.
FairVote Minnesota has already made recommendations for the State Plan. But the governor and secretary of state must hear from supportive citizens before they’ll incorporate our recommendations into their proposal. Here are the FairVote Minnesota recommendations:
- Require new electronic voting equipment acquired with HAVA funds to have the flexibility to process a ranked ballot used in instant runoff voting.
- Allow local governments to upgrade existing voting equipment with ranked ballot capability using HAVA funds.
- Make HAVA funds available to educational organizations to conduct research, evaluative studies, and demonstration projects on the effect of voting systems on the quality of democracy.
We need you to contact Governor Pawlenty and Secretary Kiffmeyer this week and ask them to “support FairVote Minnesota’s recommendations for the HAVA proposal.” Be sure to give your name and address and ask for a reply. Here’s their contact information.
