Group Description

The District's activism & discussion group for advocates for instant runoff voting. This group is new, so please don't be shy to join and recruit members! Goals of the group include ballot initiatives and legislation to use IRV for District and federal races.

Instant runoff voting is the money-saving reform that gives voters more choices and solves the spoiler problem by allowing voters to rank candidates (1, 2, 3). Instant runoff voting also eliminates wasted votes and the "lesser evil" dilemma. This inclusive system is used to elect the mayor of London, the president of Ireland, the House of Representatives in Australia, the mayor and board of supervisors of San Francisco, Utah Republican Party primary candidates, and many student governments. The system is also known as preferential voting, ranked choice voting, and the alternative vote.
