The United Nations Information Technology Service (UNITeS), part of
the UN Volunteers program, has launched a new section on its web
site, devoted to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)
and to promoting the involvement of volunteers as essential to the
successful achievement of fair and inclusive information societies:

      http://www.unites.org/wsis

The WSIS will take place December 10 - 12 in Geneva, Switzerland and
again in 2005 in Tunis, Tunisia. UNITeS and UNV are taking an active
role in prepatory meetings for the WSIS, as well as in the WSIS
working group "Volunteering and new technologies," which is composed
of various key volunteering organizations, including CIVICUS,
European Volunteer Centre (CEV), International Association for
Volunteer Effort (IAVE), and the International Federation of Red
Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Please see the UNITeS web site and its new WSIS section for more
      information.
