I have been reading the views of
various people regarding the issue of Kolencherry Medical
College .Thank you folks for bringing out this issue. Many of us who
are alumni of CMC Vellore were upset to hear about the denial of
sponsorship in Vellore to our church candidates- this year for MB,BS
and probably from next year for BSc Nsg ,as Kangazha MGDM Hospital
has got BSc Nsg programme. I do not wish to go into the CMC
council's explanation for denying us sponsorship.

Coming to the Kolencherry issue - despite so many postings in IOIF and
articles in Malankara Sabhadeepam, it is a pity that no official clarification
regarding the status of the Medical College has come from any church
administrator or members of the H synod. Is the MOSCMC owned by our
church, or are we being taken for a ride by the "real owners"?I do
not know if the statement made by MC Cherian Achen is official. And
Achen should realise that IOIF members are not spreading lies
deliberately, I agree some of the opinions were erroneous. I
understand a significant amount of money was allotted to the Kolencherry MC in the last budget of our church. If indeed it belongs to our church, we are
guilty of committing a big mistake- erring from the mission. MOSCMM
Hospital Kolencherry has rendered great service to the people for
over 3 decades, and had been a role model in the field of medical
mission. But somewhere along the way, the idea of a medical college
crept in and "we" too became a party to commercialisation. If the MC
is really an institution of our church, we should set apart half the
seats of the management quota for students sponsored by our church
with the fees comparable to that in CMC Vellore. The institution
must be governed by a council comprising of eminent people from
different walks of life, representing each diocese of our church.
But this is easier said than done for obvious reasons. With the
prevailing mood of the various political parties in Kerala(ruling
and opposition) and the recent SC verdict, we are in for trouble.
