      Resp & Dear All,
      We the members of St. Gregorios Orthodox  Society (SGOS)   congratulate Prof Jacob Kurain Onattu, the Principal of Baselius College, Kottayam, the flagship college of the Orthodox Church in its headquarter city.
      In recognition of Prof. Jacob Kurian Onattu’s remarkable contributions as an academician and administrator, the Kerala Higher Education Trust, Kochi, has decided to confer ‘the Best Principal of Kerala Award 2012-13’ on him. This award is instituted in the name of Padmabhushan Dr. M. V. Pylee, former Vice – Chancellor of Cochin University (CUSAT).
      The trust has decided to hold the award presentation function in August / September at Kottayam.
      Prof. Jacob Kurian Onattu is a member of St. Gregorios Orthodox  Society (SGOS)  and belongs to Mar Gregorios Orthodox Parish, Njaliakuzhy, Vakathanam.  He has been serving there as Choir Leader and Sunday School Teacher for more than 30 years now. He was elected to the Orthodox Church Managing Committee twice, both times with the highest majority from the Kottayam Diocese. For the latest Managing Committee elections also he was a contestant, but withdrew in the last minute when LL Mar Ivanios asked him to do so in order to give chances to new faces.
      A popular speaker, Prof. Onattu was twice honoured by the Kerala State Junior Chamber with ‘the Outstanding Speaker of the Year’ Award.  He was the key–note speaker for the Annual Conference of the American Diocese (New York & Florida) in 2007 and for the Orthodox Youth Movement GCC meeting (Bahrain) in 2008.  In 2012, he was the Chief Resource Person at the School Teachers’ Annual Motivational Seminar organized by the Indian School, Bahrain. He visited almost all GCC countries for taking classes and or leading the conferences.
      Prof. Jacob Kurian Onattu had his primary education at his birthplace (Vakathanam) and secondary school at M. T. Seminary High School, Kottayam. He had his entire college education at S. B. College, Changanacherry. He took his B. A.  in 1979 and MA 1981 in English Language and Literature, both with first class and gold medal. In December 1981, he joined Baselius College, Kottayam as Junior Lecturer in English.
      In 1992, Prof. Onattu took his M.Phil in Victorian English Literature with first class. In 2001, he was  appointed as Principal of K. G. College, Pampady. He served there for seven years. In 2008, in recognition of his excellent track - record, the Management promoted and posted him as the Principal of Baselius College, Kottayam, the flagship college of the Orthodox Church in is headquarter city. He is continuing there now, prayerfully trying to raise the college to greater heights. Under his leadership, the infrastructural facilities of the college has grown by leaps and bounds. The first ever Ladies’ Hostel on the campus and two new floors above the instrumentation block are the latest infrastructural additions initiated by Prof. Onattu.
      Prof. Onattu is currently a member of the UGC–NAAC peer team for visiting colleges in the various states of India and accrediting them. He was the National Vice – President of All Indian Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE – New Delhi) till 2012. He is still continuing as its national executive board member from Kerala. He has served on various other committees and commissions related to the church and academics. Having put in more than twelve years’ service as Principal, currently he is one of the senior most academic heads in Kerala.
                          We the members of SGOS pray God Almighty to strengthen the awardee and his wife Mrs. Isha Jacob and children Akshay & Ashish more and more to carry on his mission of spreading the word of God and to train the up-coming generation to live confidently and courageously through Christian wisdom in the fast changing modern world.
