The Brahmavar - Chaldean connection: Little is known about Luis Mariano Soares (Mar Basilius), a Goan, who was ordained priest by Alvares Mar Julius. Certain records claim Soares was later consecrated as Mar Basilios in 1899 by Mar Abdtshu (de jure Patriarch of the Chaldean Church), in Trichur, to preside over the Madura District of Christians who had revolted against Jesuits. After the death of Mar Abdtshu, it is claimed that he proclaimed himself as the Metropolitan of India, Ceylon, Mylapur, Socotra, Messina etc. His importance lies especially in the consecration of Ulric Vernon Herford, in 1902, as Metropolitan of Mercia & Middlesex (England).

There has been very little research about him, even from the side of the Chaldean Church. Mar Alvares Media, hopes to uncover more about it. The Brahmavar mission was not limited to Brahmavar and Alvares Mar Julius. There is more, which needs to be uncovered. A great number of Konkani priests served many parts of India & Ceylon, under Mar Alvares, which had great following everywhere. After their death, most of the faithful in these areas assimilated into Roman Catholic Church, as there were none to continue what they started (except for Brahmavar). Had these communities had inflow of missionaries from our Church, the size of the church would have been considerably quite large.

Alvares Mar Julius, in the rank of Metropolitan seems unjustified. A person of his caliber should have been the Catholicos of the Church.
