Abhaya Niketan, Makkodia Observes World TB Day
- Abhaya Niketan, Makkodia, observed World TB Day on March 24th, in association with Catholic Health Association of India (CHAI), to create awareness about the symptoms, causes and preventives of the pandemic disease Tuberculosis (TB) that has taken unprecedented number of lives. Public meeting, public pledge and door-to-door Campaign marked this years Day Celebration. As part of the program a block level meeting was conducted on 23rd March 2013 at Abhaya Niketan Training center. About 70 persons participated the meeting hosted by CHAI and Abhaya Niketan. The program for the day started at 10.00 AM with the lighting of the lamp, followed by prayer. Mrs. Ranjitha, Field Coordinator welcomed the participants. Mr. Oommen Varghese, Coordinator CHAI, Mr. Hemath Agarwal, District TB Cell Hoshangabad, Representatives from Panchayath, Local Political leaders comprised the dignitaries attending the function. The dignitaries delivered messages on the occasion.
Public Pledge: The main purpose of the Public Pledge was to create awareness on tuberculosis and free DOTs Therapy as well as to send across the message Early detection of TB leads to sure cure. Mr. Hemanth Agarwal, TB Officer recited the pledge, which was taken by all the participants.
Door to door Campaign: To create awareness on TB, Abhaya Niketan carried out door-to-door campaign, conducted house visits and distributed pamphlets at Villages in Seoni Block. Mr. Sanoj, Project Coordinator Abhaya Niketan and other staff of Abhaya Niketan led the campaign.
Abhaya Niketan is one of the projects of Bhilai St. Thomas Mission under Calcutta Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, initiated by Late Lamented Dr. Stephanos Mar Theodosius, and is continuing under the guidance of His Grace Dr. Joseph Mar Dionysius Metropolitan. This project focuses on educational, health, livelihood and social welfare activities of the villages in Madhya Pradesh.
