Marie Antoinette in Winter Norwegians and Lapps
- "Marie Antoinette drew her inspiration [for the masked balls] from a recent snowfall, selecting "Norwegians and Lapps" as her theme. Outfitted in sumptuous, faux-Scandanavian attire provided at the Queen's behest courtiers flocked to the party and stayed well past dawn Marie Antoinette looked radiant in winter-wonderland attire "
"Queen of Fashion", Caroline Weber
The above quotation from Ms. Weber's book appears in the blog "Mason Gross Survivor" by Dennis Budesheim.
I have just posted a drawing "Norwegians and Lapps" by Dennis
Budesheim that accompanies the above quote in his blog "Mason Gross Survivor" by Dennis Budesheim.
They were originally posted by Dennis to his blog in December 3, 2012 and are reposted here with his kind permission. Here is a link to that original post
This is the 13th of a series of posts to this group from the Mason Gross Survivor blog. That original artwork by Dennis is a pen and ink drawing of Marie Antoinette and one of her courtiers perhaps the Swede Axel von Fersen in Scandavian costume for that winter ball that Weber describes. This drawing can also be found as "Dennis 14 Norwegians and Lapps" in the album "Dennis MA drawings".
Comments on the quote and/or drawing welcome.
