Stripped of Her Royal Clothing, A woman going to Death Her Way
- "They may have stripped her of her royal clothing and roughly shorn
her hair, but the picture of her riding in that garbage cart shows a
woman going to her death her way."
"Her head held high and sitting up straight with perfect
posture. No matter how anyone may feel about the way Marie
Antoinette was during her reign, you can't help
but admire her."
"I have become most fascinated with the stories of her life and
horrifying death. I understand that the mob (her subjects) was
trying to humiliate her, but she remained dignified and elegant
until the end.
Those are the word of Joela in post no. 371 "Newbie to Group".
In her wonderful post, Jo Jo beautifully captures one of the
greatest fascinations of Marie Antoinette for me and I think
Here was a woman born a princess, the "daughter of
Caesars", daughter of Austrian Empress and Holy
Roman Emperor, who was married to the crown
Prince and soon became in her own right Queen
She lived her life in palaces, surrounded by servants,
And all the conforts and luxuries life could offer.
She began her reign as Queen of France in 1774 as
The most acclaimed and admired of Europe's crowned
Heads. Her beauty, fashions and elegance set the
Standard for all Europe.
Yet in the French Revolution that began in 1789, first
Her powers, then all of her comforts and finally her
Life and family were taken from her.
In her last year of life 1793, as Jo Jo rightly states,
Marie Antoinette was indeed "stripped of her royal
Clothing", and as Jo Jo also states faced her fate in
The most upright and admirable fashion.
I invite all to view two of the photo albums in our
Sister group Images of Marie Antoinette 2

showed in her inprisonment and during her trial

to those so well stated by Jo Joy.
