Group Description

See our website at IkenoboIkebana.com

The origins of ikebana date back over 500 years and are deeply entwined with the artistic history of Japan. Ikenobo is the original ikebana school and the headquarters of Ikenobo remains at the place of its founding, the Rokkakudo Temple in Kyoto, Japan. It is well know as the Eighteenth Secret Site of the Buddhist Pilgrimage in western Japan. Since the time when Kyoto was the capital of Japan (794-1192), it was also the religious center of the town. From its beginnings, the spirit of Ikenobo Ikebana has come down to us through continuing generations of headmasters.

The Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America, a non-profit organization, was founded in July 1970 by Sen'ei Ikenobo, 45th Headmaster of Ikenobo. Headquarters for North America was established at the Japan Center in San Francisco, CA. The Ikenobo world headquarters in Kyoto, Japan operates this office. The Colorado Chapter of Ikenobo is part of that organization. Membership in the Ikenobo Ikebana Society is open to all persons studying the Ikenobo way of arranging flowers.

The Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America is continually striving to promote goodwill through the art of Japanese flower arranging. In addition to providing support to our members, the Society furnishes information to the general public and provides information on local Professors who conduct lessons, exhibitions, demonstrations, and other activities.
