Is that the app "Sailflow"? I just downloaded it. Very nice. It shows the windspeeds and directions on a map of your location. You get a really nice view.

Sailflow has proven to have reasonable forecasts by the hour for speed, direction, gusts, etc. I frostbite race (sailing) weekends all winter on Long Island

On my android phone I ask google "Hayward, Wisconsin wind speed" "Lake Minnetonka wind speed" "Chicago wind speed" etc. It will respond back with the answer

Also get a set of ice picks, handles with a sturdy pick at one end connected with rope that you can wear around your neck. Helpful if you go through the ice
