      René González' father has died!

Cándido René González, the father of one of the Five Cuban antiterrorists condemned to long sentences in the U.S., died today in Havana at age 82. The national television news reported that Gonzalez expired due to a stroke, after a severe and protracted illness.

His body was cremated on Monday morning and the ashes will be deposited in a mausoleum at Havana's Colón Cemetery during a private family ceremony.

The note states that Cándido González emigrated to America in 1950 and joined the July 26 Movement in Chicago and was a member of the Fair Play for Cuba Committee.

He returned home in 1961, when he joined the National Revolutionary Militia and mobilized and in antiaircraft artillery units during the October Crisis.

He was also a cane cutter for 10 harvest seasons and a trade union leader.

His son, René González, is forced to remain in the United States under the parole system, despite having finished his sentence for preventing terrorist attacks on his country in 2011.

Other prosecuted for a similar reason were Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez, whose release have been demanded by millions of people worldwide.
