        Section 4.5 of the (2000 draft) standard is quite clear that the hyphen is to be used. It is an ASCII character (also part of the IEC character standard referred) to, and, as such, will be rendered correctly on virtually any computer of any vintage. Other character sets tend to be version dependent and decode differently on different machines.
         
        Quite a bit of what you are using decodes incorrectly on my monitor; I don't know whether it echoes back OK, but it is hard for me to even read your message.
