      Saturday, February 19, 8:00 AM
      10thAnnual IOS Gull Frolic

Guest Speaker 9:30 AM and 1:30 PM: Mr. Alvaro Jaramillo – “Everything you've
ever wanted to know about gulls but were afraid to ask.”

Bring your binoculars, scope and cold weather gear. Experts will be available to
help ID and answer questions. The suggested donation for the Gull Frolic is
$10, which includes food and beverages. To defray the cost of bringing Alvaro
to Chicago, a modest $5 donation is suggested for lecture attendance.

The $10 registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch, including Sea
Gull Stew, vegetarian pasta, drinks and more. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will
be available all day. The fee will help defray facility expenses. Any surplus
will go to the IOS Grant Program to benefit Illinois birds and birding.

When you need a break from the outdoors, come inside the Winthrop Harbor Yacht
Club for breakfast, coffee and lunch. You'll also have a chance to sit in on one
of two lectures by Alvaro Jaramillo, who is returning after last year's very
popular appearance. Alvaro lives in northern California, travels the world as a
birding guide and is a specialist in rare gulls. Alvaro's 9:30and 1:30 lecture
topic is "Everything you've ever wanted to know about gulls but were afraid to
ask." Frolic participants will have a chance to submit their most pressing
questions about gulls by email before the event so you don't have to "be afraid
to ask" in front of Illinois and Wisconsin's birding community.

This year, pre-registration is required for the lecture and the Frolic and we
are limiting attendance to 150 people. This is due to fire code regulations at
the yacht club. Most years we are in compliance with this limit, but last
year's large attendance of over 250 people has required us to limit the
attendance. Register early to assure you can attend! More details will be
available soon at IOS's web site: http://www.illinoisbirds.org An online
registration form will allow you to request a speaker time and pre-register for
the frolic. Registrations will be handled by IOS Gull Frolic Chair, Brian
Herriott. Contact Brian at wrybill@... with any questions.

To reach the Winthrop Harbor Yacht Club take the I-94 toll road north toward
Milwaukee. Exit at Route 173. Turn right (east) and go to Sheridan Road (Rt.
137). Turn left and proceed to 7th Street. Turn right on 7th Street and follow
the North Point Marina signs to the yacht club. DO NOT SPEEDon 7th Street! It is
actively patrolled by the Winthrop Harbor police.

More info will be posted at http://www.illinois birds.org as we getcloser to the
      date.
The Gull Frolic is sponsored by many local bird clubs, organizations and
individuals. Hosted by the Illinois Ornithological Society.
