Join IAM in supporting Museum Advocacy Day
- Speak Up For Museums!
Even if you are not traveling to Washington, you too can participate in
the AAM Museum Advocacy Day.
From March 22-23, museum staff form across the country will be in
Washington DC for AAM's 2nd Museum Advocacy Day. This is an opportunity
for all of us in the museum community to
to carry a united message to members of Congress and advocate
collectively on behalf of museums of every kind- history museums, art
museums, science centers, children's museums, arboreta, zoos, and
aquariums. While your colleagues from around the country are meeting
with elected officials in Washington, please take time to pick up the
phone or email the district office of your elected officials.
Let our elected officials know that museum representatives are in
Washington talking to members of Congress about the importance and value
of museums. Remind them of the important role that you play in their
The AAM website, SpeakUpForMuseums.org, containts "Materials for
Advocates" - issue papers that include key talking points related to
funding for IMLS, NEA, NSF, and other topics. Among the many issues
museums will be supporting is funding for the Institute of Museum and
Library Services and reauthorization of IMLS. There is a wealth of other
information that AAM is providing that you can use to add your voice to
advocate on behalf of museums, from your institution and from your home
