    Message 1 of 1 , Jun 17, 2013

      Dear Colleagues,

Space remains for you to attend one of this week's or mid-July's digital archives webinars, beginning tomorrow (Tuesday) evening at Columbia College's Center for Black Music Research, and continuing Wednesday at Wheaton College
These webinars are especially useful, informative, and quite affordable for local history librarians who are grappling with digital personal collections, museum professionals who may have to work with digital archival collections relating to objects, and students.

The advance registration fee is $15 for a Chicago Area Archivists member and $20 for a non-member.  Be aware that on-site registration is possible, but only by a personal check (not credit cards nor cash), for $20 for CAA members and $25 for non-members.  We highly encourage you to register in advance through the CAA website at http://www.chicagoarchivists.org/events.  Our webinars are hosted by gracious volunteers who stay late at their workplaces to provide these opportunities, so we would prefer not saddling them with additional duties to take and forward on-site payments.

Please feel free to share this information with colleagues or cross-post to other listservs that have subscribers in northeastern Illinois and northwestern Indiana.

      Martin Tuohy,
for the Professional Development Subcommittee of the Chicago Area Archivists

      About the Webinar

How do you improve user experience of the collections and services your program delivers through the Web?

In this course you’ll learn about the methods and tools developed by the Information Architecture (IA) community to support the principles of user-centered design.  Information architecture (IA) is the application of ethnographic research methods to understand the uses of a collection of information objects.  These and the users’ understanding of the information form the basis of an organizing principle for materials and their access interfaces so that we can more easily find and use what we need.

Presenters will review research findings about user interaction with archives and their access interfaces in order to show the relevance of the methods of information architecture introduced during this course; participants will take part in an exercise that demonstrates application. For more information about this webinar, see the course description on the SAA website.
