The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM) in Springfield, IL, combines rigorous scholarship and ground-breaking showmanship to connect the public with the life, times, and legacy of President Abraham Lincoln. The ALPLM features inspiring exhibits and shows on Lincoln's life, with its world renowned Lincoln Collection that forms the basis for exhibitions at the museum and library which has approximately 40,000 square feet of exhibition space that includes the Illinois Gallery, a 2,100 square feet temporary exhibition gallery; the Treasures Gallery, which features a rotating exhibit of precious artifacts related to Abraham Lincoln; and a variety of other exhibit space at the museum and library where collections related to Lincoln, the Civil War and Illinois history are regularly displayed. The ALPLM serves local, state, national, and international audiences.
The ALPLM is seeking a creative, energetic and experienced Director of Exhibits (Senior Public Service Administrator Option 1) to lead the institution's exhibit programs and initiatives and serve as a key member of the senior management team. The Director of Exhibits will provide leadership and vision to develop, deliver, create and implement exhibitions that support the ALPLM interpretive plan using a wide range of formats including graphics, hands-on interactives, multimedia components, tactile displays, and personalized web-based content to be delivered via mobile devices. The Director of Exhibits will work with interdisciplinary content teams at the ALPLM in planning and designing exhibits and will manage subordinate registrar and exhibit preparation staff. The Exhibits Director will work collaboratively both within the institution and with external partners and constituencies and seek and administer public and private grant funding opportunities.
