Group Description

There are two reasons why someone would want to build their own RV: money, and choice.

All RV owners, and prospective RV owners, share two basic concerns when it comes to shopping for an RV.

1. Where to get professional, impartial and current trusted information which addresses their specific needs, life style and budget without a sales pitch.
2. How to make sense of confusing and contradictory information exchanged at shows, sales lots, dealerships and on-line.

It's not unusual for an owner of a 3-6 year old RV to owe more on it than its appraised value. This difference can be a $2000-$100,000 or more. At sale or trade time these owners are shocked and amazed that they have to write out a check to pay that difference. Obviously, dealers are reluctant to discuss this. Some first time owners make a shocking discovery after their initial trip or vacation. They discover they bought the wrong vehicle.

RV shopping can be a daunting task. What, where, when, why, how, family concerns, money - months leading to years of endless driving, searching, comparing and shopping for the perfect RV. All valuable time which could be spent having fun with the family in the very thing we are seeking.

Full time RVers are at the top of the food chain and their experience with and knowledge of RVs supreme. Their mantra-many manufactures come close, but, there is no one perfect towable or motorized RV. Because of this over the years they have made and continue to make modifications, large and small, to correct factory design flaws or problems.

I have not found any dedicated information resource for converting a semi trailer into an RV. And, since building a semi trailer conversion address one of the most important issues an RVer has to face: Choosing a vehicle, new or used, that best meets as many of their "use" criteria and "budget" concerns as possible. Our goal needs to be one of helping each other buy wisely, build intelligently, operate safely, and have fun.
