HI Rod. Have you come across any other names from that period? I am also researching the fate of Mary Stochla, who live in Thunder Bay at that time. Thanks,

So you probably seen this link before for the Canadian Archives http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/022/022-908-e.html

Being the Canadian government it is not intuitive at all but I bet you can find your grandfathers records.  It should be a start.

      Dear all,

My name is Evan Ostryzniuk and I am collecting any and all information about my grandfather. He was a rather mysterious fellow, but I do have a few facts:

      Mykhailo Ostryzniuk
      b. c.1895 in Hostiw village, Tlumach district
      emigrated to Canada in 1911
settled in Thunder Bay until c.1930; moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba
m1. Mary Stochla in Thunder Bay/Fort William in 1917 (no known issue)
m2. Marta Kurka in Winnipeg, Manitoba 1944 (2 sons: Mykhailo and Yaroslav)
      d. 1975 in Winnipeg, Manitoba
somehow related to Khryshchuk family of Thunder Bay area

I see these names and places often here in this Group, so I am hoping some of you have some information about Ostryzniuks, Stochlas, Khryshchuks or anyone from our native village who came to the New World in the early part of last century. I did some research here in Ukraine, but I came up empty, other than for the fact that the Ostryzniuk name is very common the Ivano-Frankivsk area.

Me? Well, I am Canadian, but I have been living in Kyiv, Ukraine for the past 15 years. I visited the old village once a few years ago, but it was raining and everything was closed, so not much of a story to tell there. So, don't be shy! Share what you have!
